Welcome!

Welcome to the University of Maryland Nicaragua Winter Term 2013 Study Abroad blog! The students will update the blog daily when we're in Nicaragua. Everyone is busy working on our projects.  We’re working with UNAM students in Managua on kits for preschool children, a water purifier and flashlight/bracelets.  In Grenada, we’ll work with the Grenada library and Nicaragua Dispatch, an online newspaper, developing business plans, long term sustainable fundraising and operations efficiency.  In San Juan del Sur we’ll work with entrepreneurs – a spa/health products owner, a fishing boat owner/operator, two jewelry designers, and a cosmetics door to door business. The students have been busy with fundraising to help the entrepreneurs – so far a bake sale and book sale.  Your donations are greatly appreciated.  We found that even a small amount of money goes a long way toward helping entrepreneurs realize their dreams.
